Good Faith Estimate

Good Faith Estimate (Self-Pay Patients)

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under federal law, health care providers must provide a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges to patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance (self-pay) for items and services.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate is a written explanation of the expected charges for medical items and services, including related costs such as tests, prescriptions, equipment, and facility fees (if applicable). Your estimate will be based on the information available at the time it is created.

When will I receive a Good Faith Estimate?

You can receive a Good Faith Estimate:

  • When you schedule an appointment, or
  • Any time you request one

If you schedule services at least 3 business days in advance, you should receive a Good Faith Estimate within 1 business day after scheduling.

If you schedule services at least 10 business days in advance, you should receive a Good Faith Estimate within 3 business days after scheduling.

What if I receive a bill that is higher than my estimate?

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill.
